Summary This position is responsible for directing the production staff and helping to create a safe environment for the employees to work in. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Direct all hourly production personnel in the mixing, processing, and packaging areas. • Communicate and execute the production schedule. • Manage labor and material resources to maximize efficiencies and yields. • Provide mechanical assistance when necessary to maintain optimum production levels • Provide support to management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve product/packaging issues. • Participate in the planning of new installations. • Ensure safety in the work place by reporting unsafe conditions and unsafe employee behaviors. • Ensure compliance of plant Good Manufactoring Practices and safety guidelines. • Complete periodic and annual reviews for all hourly personnel. • Protect company assests by the direct intervention of any condition resulting in the abuse of equipment or buildings. • Make recommendations for continuous improvement in all phases of Allentown operations. • Contribute to the team environment that is the model for the Allentown facility. • Ensure proper sanitation standards are followed. • Ensure all employees receive the proper training. • Keep management informed of changes or potential problems that could impact production. • Assist management in implementing new procedures. • Assist management in maintaining positive employee relations. • Knowledge of company policies and procedures. • Must follow all safety procedures and Good Manufactoring Practices. • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. • Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SunOpta’s policies and applications. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; appraising performance; reward and discipline of employees; addressing and resolution of staff problems.
