The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring database availability, reliability, and performance across SQL Server, Oracle, and Mysql platforms. These are used in an online 24x7 world, and also for corporate applications. This person supports the efforts of the IT Applications Development Groups for the development and operation of applications utilizing database technology. This person monitors and enhances database system performance to ensure a high level of system functionality and reliability. This person also monitors backups, performs restores as needed, and installs database upgrades. This person works closely with the Senior Database administrator to deploy solutions that have been architected.

Job Functions: 
Applications Development Support - Supports the systems development process by providing object creation, database code releases. The Database Administrator works in conjunction with the developer and other Systems DBA(s) to resolve database problems during application testing and implementation. 
Database Development – The Database Administrator will use his scripting expertise to develop system maintenance scripts. Scripts will also need to be created as required for data interfaces, or other database driven applications. This will include shell scripting, sql scripting, and possibly procedural languages exposed by the particular database technology. 
Production Support - Participates in the resolution of production problems that involve database issues. Oversees the migration of database components between the development and production environments. Ensures the continued cost effective performance of the database management system and related applications. Provides ongoing support to other Operations and Support components as needed. 
Database System Support - Monitors database system performance in both Development and Production environments. Researches and implements enhancements to improve system performance. Works with other Technical Services staff for database software installation and maintenance. 
Data Access Support - Works with the users to evaluate requirements to access data across various computing platforms. Installs and supports various tools used to establish communication and data access between the platforms. 
Database Environment - SQL Server, Oracle, and Mysql 
Database Replication/Data Transformation - Responsible for the analysis and architecture associated with data replication between multiple Oracle, Mysql, and SQL Server database servers. ETL experience to some degree is desired. 
X ML Experience required – Interfaces to data could include the need to read/write/transform XML. 
Operating System Environment - Requires knowledge of Unix/Linux, and exposure to Microsoft Windows Server, from an operating system, networking and administration perspective. 
Database Backup/Recovery - Develops, implements, and maintains stringent backup/recovery processes for the development and production database environments. Works closely with customers and Applications Development Staff to ensure proper database recovery and backup strategies are developed, implemented and tested. Continually monitors and improves backup/recovery mechanisms as needed. 
Education / Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience.
Database Management Systems formal training a plus
Required Work Experience (List position, function, type of business and length of time)
Minimum of 2-3 years Database Management System experience in the Client/Server and Internet/Intranet paradigm is required.
Experience with Internet/Intranet Technologies (e.g. HTML, CGI, Perl, Java) is a plus.
Required Supervisory/Interactive Skills
Must be a good people person and able to work with all levels of management. Must be able to communicate clearly from both a written and oral perspective.
Travel between Emmaus, PA and New York, NY as needed.
Off hours work as needed
Oncall rotation for database support
